Who is Juliet Espinosa? She is a fighter. She is a daughter, sister, cousin, granddaughter, and my niece. She is an adorable, strong-willed baby girl. She is going through a battle tougher than many will ever have to face in their entire lives; and she started it before her 1st birthday.
We have her wonderful, loving big brother and sister living with my family while Juliet fights; and I would do any and everything to reunite them with their baby sister. This journey is inexplicable. Heart-rending. Devastating. And that’s just for me, all the way across the world from my sweet baby niece, and her parents (my amazing brother and sister). I wish I could hug all three of them numerous times a day, but I can’t. I can’t bring Damian and Wyllowe dinner or coffee, I can’t relieve them so they can go home to shower, go do their laundry, or the many other things I would be doing were I closer. Like so many others on this side of the world, I sometimes feel a bit helpless. So, what can we do?
Aside from giving directly to the family, the biggest help that has been asked for is blood donations. This I am in complete awe of. As if being there fighting with their baby girl is not hard enough on them: holding her day in and day out, watching her go through the things that you never want to see your child go through, and making decisions any parent would dread having to make. They are doing it all, and they have decided to put MORE energy out there to get people to donate blood in order to give back. The great thing about that is, it is something most of us CAN actually do. If you can’t yourself, you can encourage others. Why? Because blood donations, from unknown individuals in Australia, are saving and continue to save Juju’s life. Because those people who took a little time from their daily lives to donate blood, are giving Juju a fighting chance against cancer.
While we can’t donate blood directly to Juliet, we can give back to the overall movement. These are actual lives being saved. For each person who donates blood, an average of three lives are saved! The more blood that is given, the more chances these very real people all over the world get to live another day. It could be that the blood you give saves another baby, child, mother, father, sister, brother, grandma or grandpa, auntie, uncle or friend.
The movement has already started in Australia, and now we’re bringing it to the States. Spread the love that Juliet is being given, help make a difference in the world. Make and keep an appointment to give blood to the American Red Cross.
