Our 4-year-old daughter, Clarke O’Neill, is fighting cancer every day. The life-saving medicine she is treated with is hard on her body and her blood counts are frequently low. She needs a blood transfusion about once every week and a half to stay strong. She also just received her first platelet transfusion this week as well and we are not sure how regularly she will need platelets. These transfusions are likely to continue like at this pace for the next two years.

I’ve learned that the pandemic is taking a toll on the number of blood donations received. In August they are expecting the incoming donations to be critically low. If you are hesitant for any reason and have questions, please call the American Red Cross and get answers.
