Every 2 seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood, and a single blood donation can save up to 3 lives. A consistent and diverse supply of blood is critical, since blood can only be stored for a limited time.
The pandemic has exacerbated uncertainty and fluctuations to the national blood supply, and the American Red Cross recently issued a severe blood shortage alert for the summer of 2021. As a result of the current shortage, some elective surgeries are being delayed until the blood supply stabilizes, delaying crucial patient care. Your help is needed!
Join the broader laboratory community to support patients in need by pledging to donate blood, platelets or plasma today. Click the Pledge button to find and sign up at a local donation center, then share this page with your friends, family and colleagues. Anyone can join in, so please spread the word!
Pledges will be taken through the ASCP 2021 Annual Meeting, being held October 27-29 virtually and in Boston, MA. Attendees in Boston will also have the opportunity to donate blood on-site.
Finally, when you donate, be sure to snap a picture and share the news on social media with the hashtag: #SleevesUpASCP
