It’s that time of year again! Check your calendars, find an hour and sign up to donate. Join me during the month of September to give the gift of life.

On September 10, 2008 I began giving a blood donation in honor of my brother, Adam.  I donate blood in his honor to commemorate his love for others and to celebrate the 18 years we were blessed to have him with us. I can not think of a better way to celebrate life than to ‘give blood…the gift of life.’

It doesn’t matter where you are, you can find a blood donation center nearest you to participate. Because it is difficult to find a blood drive on September 10th I encourage you to find a donation site and give blood sometime during the month of September.

Pockets

If I could build a machine

I would make one to shrink you down

and let me slip you in my pocket.

So then,

we’ll always be together.

But then I remember,

some people will always be too big for pockets.

I could build a giant pocket maker,

and then make a bigger pocket-

One with double stitching so you won’t fall out.

But then again,

pockets aren’t that comfortable, I bet.

If I can, then, I’ll just

remember to remember you,

and let your light shine from me-

under my skin and out my fingers

just like it did you.

And maybe, just maybe,

I can keep some of that in my pocket.
