Sickle Cell Anemia Awareness San Francisco (SCAASF) is a nonprofit organization with a focus to bring about a greater awareness of sickle cell disease, advocate for improved healthcare and educate to empower those individuals living with sickle cell disease. Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is an inherited blood disorder that requires individuals to receive transfusion and blood exchanges on a regular basis.SCAA will host this month-long blood drive during February black history month. It is important that this community be represented in order to have the necessary blood available. SCAA wanted to be sure to maximize our reach of donors by having a virtual blood drive which affords individuals to donate in their community at their convenience.

Blood donors who are Black play a critical role in helping people with sickle cell disease, the most common genetic blood disease in the U.S. It is essential that the blood they receive be the most compatible match possible, from someone of the same race or similar ethnicity.
Today, there aren’t enough blood donors to meet this urgent need. By donating blood, you can make a difference in the life of a patient with sickle cell disease as well as moms with complicated childbirths, people fighting cancer, accident or trauma victims being raced to emergency rooms, and many more.Once you have completed the pledge and keyed in your zip code a list of locations near you will appear on the left side of the screen whereby you can select the nearest site in your community.

PLEASE PLEDGE TODAY AND MAKE YOUR APPOINTMENT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.As the sponsor of the blood drive, SCAASF’s sponsor code is 228. PLEASE ENTER THAT CODE IN THE COMMENTS SECTION. It’s just that simple.
