Dear Donors,
Sickle Cell Anemia Awareness San Francisco (SCAASF) is a nonprofit organization with a focus to bring about a greater awareness of sickle cell disease, advocate for access to compassionate healthcare and educate to empower those living with sickle cell disease. Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is an inherited blood disorder that requires individuals to receive transfusion and blood exchanges on a regular basis.
SCAASF will host a month-long blood drive during February black history month. It is important that this community be represented in order to have the necessary blood available. SCAA wants to be sure to maximize our reach of donors by having a virtual blood drive. This affords individuals to donate in their community at their convenience.
Blood donors who are Black play a critical role in helping people with sickle cell disease, the most common genetic blood disease in the U.S. It is essential that the blood they receive be the most compatible match possible, from someone of the same race or similar ethnicity.
Today, there aren’t enough blood donors to meet this urgent need. By donating blood, you can make a difference in the life of a person with sickle cell disease.
