Back in April of 2013 I needed 77 units of blood products to help me win my battle with sepsis. My liver hemorrhaged causing an immediate need for blood. A mass blood transfusion kit was ordered. They didn’t have time to move me to the operating room, so they converted my hospital room into the ER. I took on 77 units of blood and given a 10% to pull through. All I needed were those 77 chances to fight and win my battle. All of the support we received inspired us to create the RaysUp campaign and we started to raise awareness around the importance of blood donation. Our main goal was to give back those 77 units of blood that I needed. We have exceeded our original goal and have been a part of giving back over 250 units so far! We are trying to give others in need for blood the same chance I had for life. There was a lot that went into saving my life, but if the blood wasn’t available when I needed it, I wouldn’t be here today. Because of blood donors, my 2 beautiful daughters have their daddy, my amazing wife has her husband and my great parents have their only child. Blood donation saves lives, I am living proof.
