The Stark County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated has partnered with The Heartland , Stark, & Muskingum Lake Board of the American Red Cross, Beacon Charitable Pharmacy, The Black Nurse’s Association, and Akron Children’s Hospital to engage and mobilize our resources in the most vulnerable communities. Together, we can help alleviate the suffering of patients with sickle cell disease by raising awareness of the need for blood as an essential treatment.

One in 3 African American / Hispanic blood donors is a match for people with sickle cell disease.

The #OurBloodSavesLives initiative serves to educate and increase blood drives across the country. Additionally, we seek to create a dialogue surrounding a longstanding mistrust within the medical field and the Black community in the hopes of rebuilding confidence and saving Black lives. The core initiative goal is to emphasize the importance of Black blood donors to combat the health disparities plaguing the Black Community, including Sickle Cell Disease
