In coordination with the American Red Cross, the Mitch Redden Memorial Blood Drive will take place on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, in Dana Point, from 9:00am-3:00pm. Organized in loving memory of Mitch, we invite you to join us again this year!
We do this in support of families everywhere who may have a loved one who’s in the fight of their life and in desperate need of blood transfusions. For the Redden family, it’s a way to pay it forward in hopes of having some small impact on patients in our community, and across the country, who urgently need this help.

Mitch’s personality was inspiring and he loved life. He was friendly and outgoing, welcoming, compassionate, purposeful and funny. He approached everyday as a new opportunity to be the best version of himself. Mitch received the benefit of others’ generous blood donations during the fight for his life. Kind volunteers, people we’ll never know or be able to thank, stepped forward to make a blood donation in an effort to save another’s life. Because of this, he had continual access to blood transfusions during this critical time. Mitch passed peacefully at age 58, on Wednesday, June 16th, 2021. Taken too soon, he is profoundly missed by his family and those he impacted in his life.
The reality is that the need for blood is constant and most of us will need to receive blood in our lifetime. Nationwide, someone requires a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds of everyday. Only volunteer donors can fill this need. Giving blood saves lives and donations are urgently needed.
For those who would like to donate blood out of the Orange County area, or at another time, the American Red Cross welcomes donors to give blood at donation sites, nationwide. Simply find a location nearest you, on this webpage, and sign-up today.
The Redden family is particularly grateful for your blood donation, made in memory of Mitch, and we extend our sincere thanks for your commitment to helping others in their greatest time of need.
