Miss Porter’s School educates its students to become informed, bold, resourceful and ethical global citizens and expects its graduates to shape a changing world. Yearly, Miss Porter’s Alumnae (Ancients) participate in a Day of Service with non-profit organizations as a way to live the mission. This year, Miss Porter’s Ancients will partner with the American Red Cross to support its Blood Services and Armed Forces.
The 2022 Day of Service activities will commence with two virtual events on November 16 and December 1. The first event will discuss the biomedical needs of the Red Cross and the importance of diverse blood donations, while the second event will speak to the history of the American Red Cross, its services, and the organization’s impact on our military, veterans, and their families.
In-person Day of Service activities begin December 4th, and will extend through the week of December 18th to allow time for SleevesUp donations. We’ll be holding blood drives in four cities – Hartford, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C. – and sponsoring this SleevesUp Campaign for those Ancients who live in other parts of the country so anyone who wants to donate blood can participate. We encourage all Ancients, their families, friends, and neighbors to be of service by donating blood or platelets at one of the four blood drives or at a blood drive in your area anytime between November 16th and December 18th.
In addition to blood donation, Ancients will support the Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces by writing Holiday cards to thank our military heroes and their families for their service. Card writing will occur at the blood drive locations in Farmington and L.A. and other select locations around the country.
