Makoa James Garcia was born on March 1, 2024 at 23 weeks and 5 days. He weighed in at 1 lb, 5 oz– small, but a mightly little guy! Makoa means brave, courageous, and resilient in Hawaiian, and he embodied all three of those characteristics so well. He endured so much in such a small period of time. He battled sepsis, meningitis, DIC, strokes and brain bleeds, suspected NEC, abdominal compartment syndrome, hydrocephalus, and a number of other challenges. During his 133 days of life, he received over 60 blood transfusions. So, in honor of Mak’s first heavenly birthday, please join us in honoring and celebrating our sweet boy by donating blood!
