Where were you the night of October 25th, 2023? I know where I was. Watching the news as it was reported that 18 people were murdered and 13 others wounded in Lewiston, Maine. It made me think of something I heard Fred Rodgers once said.
“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping'”. So I did that. I looked for the helpers.
It was hard to see them, but it came to me when I heard on the news a few days later. The Lewiston blood bank was dangerously low and the Red Cross had volunteers bringing more up from Boston. That is when I knew I had to help and I knew how to do so.
I am writing to encourage all of you to help refill the Lewiston blood bank. But I challenge us all to go even further. Lets refill the blood bank and have enough to send some back to Boston.
It takes less than an hour. it barely hurts. People dote on you the whole time you are there. You get to meet new people while sharing snacks. One pint of blood has the potential to save 3 lives. One donation, three lives!
We can do this, because Maine is strong and Maine works together to get things done. The state that has embraced Moxie as its state soda has to have quite the backbone. Together, we can make a difference!
