We were thrilled to be expecting our third child, Violet Jane, this summer. On July 11th, my uterus ruptured, and we experienced the most devastating loss of our lives. Joel sat for hours in the middle of the night in a hallway outside the operating room—first learning we had lost Violet, then facing the fear that he and our children might have to go on without me, too. He watched as more and more blood products were rushed past him while the hours ticked by.
Mercifully, I survived—because 18 people took the time to donate blood. Those 18 donors were as essential to my survival as the extraordinary medical team who worked under tremendous pressure to save me.
We will spend the rest of our lives missing and grieving for Violet. Please consider honoring her life—and showing love and care for others—by donating blood if you are able.
We will love you forever, Violet Jane. ?
