In Honor of Courtney Kelley

148 /150

On May 14, 2019, Courtney had major complications during childbirth and underwent multiple surgeries to repair her abdomen and get her body’s blood to a stable level. The next evening, she was life-lined to University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) after she had exhausted the tri-state area’s blood supply at Meritus – they said they had replaced her entire blood supply 5 times within 24 hours and couldn’t stop her bleeding.

Courtney is very fortunate to be alive; she underwent 8 major surgeries in 7 days, including open heart surgery to repair a valve leading to her SVC. Courtney’s story is a testament to the power of giving blood. Please consider donating blood whenever possible – there’s no doubt blood bank supplies saved Courtney’s life. Let’s redeem her story by helping others.
