Did you know that African Americans make up 13% of the U.S. population but make up less than 3% of blood donors? The Southern Prince George’s County Church Community is taking action to change that statistic with our blood drive!
Currently, our country is facing the worst blood shortage in over a decade amid the COVID Pandemic. Therefore, the need for blood donation is at an all-time high!
African American donors can play a vital role and help support our country and communities at this time more than ever. African American donors’ blood can help people with sickle cell disease, which is the most common genetic blood disease in the U.S. People with sickle cell often need blood transfusions throughout their lives to help prevent sickle cell complications. It’s essential that the blood they receive is the most compatible match and comes from donors of the same race or ethnicity.
Let’s do our part and support our country and communities! Pledge your blood donation today and schedule an appointment at your convenience.
