When my grandson, Gideon, was diagnosed with leukemia the day after his 7th birthday, I wondered what a grandparent could do to support him through his cancer journey. As a long time blood and platelet donor, I realized one of the most important ways I could help was to continue to donate and do everything I could to increase awareness for the need for blood donors – not just for cancer patients, but in general. That’s what led me to start an on-going blood drive called "Gideon’s Gallons" in honor of my grandson.
