We are organizing this blood drive in honor of our daughter Eleanor (Nora) Regan Moore. Nora was born after an emergency c-section at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Only 5 days prior during a routine 32 week ultrasound, we were told that she had a 2 inch hard mass on her abdomen, that we later found our was neuroblastoma, a rare cancer. After being seen by multiple specialists her heart rate started to decline and we went into surgery. We were able to spend three days with her, until we had to let her go peacefully in our arms surrounded by the love of her family and friends.
Nora received multiple blood products in her short life that kept her with us as well as incredible care from the amazing team of doctors and nurses at Johns Hopkins. To give back we will be holding The Eleanor Regan Moore Blood Drive.
The Red Cross counts on blood drives to fill a critical need in our nation. Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood, which is approximately 36,000 units of red blood cells daily. More than 1.68 million people are expected to be diagnosed with cancer in 2016. Many of them will need blood, sometimes daily, during their chemotherapy treatment. Blood donations often decline in the summer months, yet the need for blood doesn’t decrease. We appreciate everyone who signs up!
