They say it’s better to give than receive, and we couldn’t agree more. Which is why Dan and I are donating our birthdays to the American Red Cross!
You guys all know that Dan lived on blood transfusions both before, during and after his bone marrow transplant. The generous donors of both red blood cells and platelets literally kept him alive. Nothing was scarier than hearing the doctors tell us that there were no matched products for him in the area and we’d have to go back to our Baltimore apartment and hope nothing bad happened until the Red Cross could overnight ship blood or platelets to the hospital. This happened a few times and was super scary. During his life threatening GI bleed, Dan received nearly 200 units of blood and platelets.

SO- this year, we are hosting a SleevesUp virtual blood drive and asking friends and family to pledge to give blood. The campaign will start on Dan’s REAL birthday (12/29) and end on his RE-birthday (the one year anniversary of his transplant) which is 3/7.

Together, we’ll track our pledges, cheer each other on, and, most importantly, provide a lifesaving gift for patients in need.
