One blood donation can help save up to three lives. That means a lot to patients in need, but it took on a new meaning recently.
We experience the scariest day of our lives almost 2 years ago when our daughter Elaina had to have her first blood transfusion at the age of 2 months. She was latter diagnosed with a very rare bone marrow failure disorder called Diamond Blackfan Anemia (DBA). Peolpe with DBA cannot produce red blood cells on their own.
For the first year of Elaina’s life she received 13 blood transfusions and she could potentially need many more throughout her life.
Elaina now is an extremely energetic 2 year old who loves dancing, Elmo and giving “big hugs.” She certainly doesn’t let her medical problems get in her way! We are so very grateful for the blood that was donated by strangers to keep our daughter alive.
Without volunteer blood donors, our story might have had a different ending. Help me reach my goal and ensure that patients receive the life saving blood they need. Make and keep an appointment to give blood to the American Red Cross.
