A college student can ask for a lot of things for their birthday: Starbucks and Subway gift cards, a cool vacation somewhere that isn’t your hometown or the town your campus is in, school supplies, the latest and greatest tech supplies… Those are things that I usually want for my birthday, but this year I realized that I don’t want any of that. I was sitting at home browsing through some shopping sites when I realized that. I don’t need anything, and the only thing I want is to continue my mission of creating positive change in the world through service and volunteering. One blood donation can save up to three lives, which what greater service can you do for someone than save their life?
This summer I have been volunteering with the American Red Cross as a Blood Donor Ambassador. Through my volunteering I have learned and come to understand the importance and extreme need there is for blood donations. Summer time has an even higher need for blood donations, and I want to be able to help to help meet those needs. Since my birthday is September 20th, right at the end of summer, I figured that by doing this campaign, I could help to do that.
All I want for my 22nd birthday is for 220 people to pledge to, and give blood. That could be up to 660 lives saved!
Join me in celebrating my birthday by giving blood and saving lives!
In Service,
Autumn Guill
