Did you know that September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month? And that nearly 1/4 of the nation’s blood supply is needed for cancer patients? In 2020, 1.8 million people will be diagnosed with cancer, and blood is often essential to their fight. For those undergoing chemotherapy treatments, a blood transfusion can give them the strength to keep fighting, but only 3% of Americans donate blood in a given year.
When you donate blood or make a financial donation, you’re helping ensure cancer patients receive the lifesaving treatment and access to care they need. That’s why this year, we’re partnering with the American Red Cross to support blood donations.
Make your pledge to give blood and help support the American Red Cross by:
– Giving blood or volunteering at a blood drive event near you (note: Sign up on Power of Us when volunteering to log your hours: https://astrazeneca.benevity.org/volunteer/39054?share=1)
– Donating to this giving opportunity (https://astrazeneca.benevity.org/campaigns/39055) through Power of Us for a 100% Corporate match.
Note that the Red Cross will be testing blood, platelet and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies through early January. The test may indicate if the donor’s immune system has produced antibodies to this coronavirus, regardless of whether they developed symptoms. Red Cross antibody tests will be helpful to identify individuals who have COVID-19 antibodies and may qualify to be convalescent plasma donors.
Join the SleevesUp campaign today and help us reach our goal of 100 pledges!
