We work together every day to do important work. But today, we want to accomplish something even more meaningful. We are honored to announce that The American Legion is a proud supporter of the American Red Cross’ Heroes Saving Lives Program.

The American Red Cross Heroes Saving Lives program is a partnership with military, veteran and service groups across the country. Our nation’s heroes and everyday community heroes – blood donors, are joining together in the mission to help save lives. As a member of The American Legion, we are encouraging you to join this community service effort by pledging to give blood this October or November.

Since the early 1940s, legionnaires and local posts have hosted blood drives and given blood to help save lives – that’s why we are counting on your support! Every day there are more than 13,000 blood donations needed for patients. The blood you help collect at your blood drive can help save lives down the street or across the country – Red Cross blood products are distributed to 2,600 hospitals and transfusion centers across the country, including patients at many U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers. For more than 130 years, the Red Cross has been dedicated to serving members of the military, veterans and their families and this is a great opportunity to join the mission to help save lives.
