As a result of social distancing, blood centers throughout the country are experiencing a significant drop in donations which is limiting the ability for the nation’s blood supply to be adequately replenished. A blood shortage jeopardizes those undergoing surgeries, and victims of accidents and other emergencies.
“We need people to start turning out in force to give blood.” That urgent call-to-action coming from Peter Marks, M.D., Ph.D., director of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Biologic Evaluation and Research, as fear about the Corona Virus is keeping people from wanting to donate blood. For more information on donating during the corona virus, please see the video linked above for information from Red Cross and the FDA.
Allscripts is calling for #AllSleevesUp! Please pledge to give blood at your local Red Cross or blood donation center near you. We hope to receive pledges for 250 donors by the end of May. Donors are eligible for 500 Virgin Pulse points for participating!
For every Allscripts team member who posts a photo giving blood to Yammer using the hashtag #AllSleevesUp, we will donate $10 to Red Cross, up to $2,500. You can support Red Cross’ efforts to help during times of crisis here:
