ABBY'S ARMY VIRTUAL BLOOD DRIVE
151 /200

On June 3, 2020, seventeen year old Abby Bosarge should have been preparing for her senior year of high school. She was brilliant, talented, popular, and actively being recruited for college soccer, as well as expecting many large academic scholarships. Her life should have been well on the way to success. Instead, on June 3, 2020, Abby received an extremely aggressive cancer diagnosis: Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). But this wasn’t just any form of AML. Abby’s leukemia had two rare cytogenetics, Monosomy 7 and Inversion 3, making it even more difficult to cure.

For more than a year now, Abby has endured the most toxic and dangerous chemotherapies and immunotherapies known to man. She teetered on the verge of death many times, but somehow always managed to bounce back against all odds. Again and again she has defied the dooming predictions of various doctors, experts, and caregivers and has shocked everyone with her great attitude and stamina. She has touched tens of thousands of lives of the people who have followed her story online simply because of her outlook on life in the face of this monster. But now, she needs your help.

There is a national blood, platelet, and plasma shortage in our country which is directly affecting Abby’s healthcare and well-being. Leukemia is a blood cancer which makes patients extremely dependent upon the hemoglobin and platelets provided by donors like you. Because of this, we have partnered with the Red Cross to help Abby and so many others who are fighting for their lives, so they don’t also have to fight over a dwindling supply of blood products. Recently, Abby was in desperate need of platelets… but they sent her home due to the extreme shortage in the blood supply. There were no platelets to give her… none.

We are setting up a virtual blood drive for Abby so that you can help us to conquer this obstacle for so many cancer patients. You can pledge donate blood in honor of Abby’s Army at any Red Cross Blood Drive you choose now through the end of December, by pledging through this virtual drive you can choose a location and time that works for you and your schedule. All you need to set an appointment is your zip code to locate a drive near you. This includes both red Cross Donor Center locations or any Red Cross blood drive across the country. As always, we appreciate any donation, but did you know that if you donate WHOLE BLOOD, you can help save up to three patients with your donation, since whole blood can be divided into all three needed products: red blood cells, platelets, and plasma. Platelet donation appointments can be made at the Donor Center locations but whole blood can be given at any blood drive or at the Donor Centers.

Thank you so much for contributing to Abby’s healthcare. We appreciate you!
