In light of recently losing two family members to cancer that affected the blood, I have become passionate about donating what I can to others in need. My uncle and grandfather needed countless transfusions to support and sustain them in their final years of life. While it was spoken about so casually that they were “going to get more blood,” the truth is that someone had to selflessly take time out of their day to donate that life source. It has become important to me to help others who are fighting their battles in the way that my uncle and grandfather did. Researchers have not yet found a way to sustainably manufacture or synthesize blood outside of the body, therefore there is constantly a need for donors.
My goal is to encourage 27 people to donate blood during the month of April. There are blood drives and blood banks all over the country, whether through the Red Cross or another organization. Please reach out if you have any questions about the donation process and I would be happy to discuss any concerns or hesitations.
