Our wonderful friend, Dan, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia about a month ago. This is a very aggressive cancer and he is likely to need many life saving transfusions throughout the process.
Cancer patients are in a consistent need for blood for many reasons – loss of blood during surgery, low blood count due to the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation, or anemia, which can be caused by the disease itself. Cancers in the blood and bone marrow, such as leukemia and lymphoma, are another reason for a transfusion because the disease does not allow the body to produce normal blood-making cells.
In addition to a fundraiser that’s been created, we would like to have a “virtual” blood drive in honor of this amazing human! Dan has always been passionate about blood donation and was really bummed when he could no longer donate. We would love if you considered donating in honor of Dan.
