African-American physician, Dr. Charles R. Drew famously pioneered work on blood banking and blood plasma in the 1930’s and ‘40s. Only 5% of donors in America today are African-American*. Matching donors to recipients is critical for treatment of diseases which disproportionately affect African-Americans, such as Sickle Cell Anemia**. We must preserve our legacy of diversifying the blood products supply!
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated South Atlantic Region Cluster V is proud to sponsor the #LegacyFlowsThroughMe Challenge throughout the month of February 2021.
