140 Pledges for 140 Years of Service

The American Red Cross was founded in 1881 to provide disaster relief and humanitarian services. Since then, the organization has also saved countless lives by donating 40% of the nation’s blood supply. 60% of that blood was donated through blood drives which have been critically impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Sleeves Up campaign is designed to allow you to pledge to a central blood drive but donate where it’s most convenient for you, allowing your friends, colleagues and family to donate together while staying safely apart.

In 2021, let’s celebrate the last 140 years of life saving service by donating at least 140 units of blood – that can save up to 420 lives! While we celebrate everything the American Red Cross has accomplished over the last 140 years, let’s not forget some of the most notable leaders in the support system – the Board of Directors. The National Capital Area Chapter is supported by over 25 individuals who serve the chapter with their leadership and passion for the mission. A large portion of their contributions include the promotion and collection of blood through organizing blood drives and encouraging volunteers just like you to participate and donate. With your continued support, we can make this anniversary year a milestone year for saving lives!
