When we first learned of Carson’s diagnosis, we vowed to leave this situation better than when we started. At the time, we weren’t sure what that meant, but we knew it was important to us to find a way to give back. We have been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of family, friends, and even strangers during this difficult time, and yet many have asked what else they could do to help.

To date, Carson has needed three blood and two platelet transfusions to support her ongoing treatment. We have been grateful to receive the blood products for these transfusions from anonymous donors in our time of urgent need. Although blood banks are always in need, there is currently a significant shortage due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Throughout this experience, we continue to recognize that we are not the only family facing a difficult health challenge during these unprecedented times. Although donations collected through this virtual drive will not go directly to Carson, they will be stored in local blood banks similar to those that supply Carson’s transfusions. We are excited to have the opportunity to not only replenish the blood products Carson has needed, but to be able to pay it forward and supply donations to support others who are also in need.

Our drive is set to run through December 24th. This date marks Carson’s third birthday, Christmas Eve, and falls on what we hope will be the last week of Carson’s chemotherapy treatment. Our campaign goal is set at 24 donations (24 for Carson’s birthday), but our overall goal is to replenish the blood products Carson needs throughout her treatment and then some. We hope that 24 will more than cover our needs, but we will adjust our goal accordingly if necessary.
