Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood. It is essential for surgeries, cancer treatment, chronic illnesses, and traumatic injuries. Whether a patient receives whole blood, red cells, platelets, or plasma, this lifesaving care starts with one person making a generous donation. With no known end date in this fight against coronavirus, the Red Cross needs the help of blood and platelet donors and blood drive hosts to meet the needs of patient care. The Red Cross provides about 40% of our nation’s blood and blood components, all from generous volunteer donors. But supply can’t always meet demand because only about 3% of age-eligible people donate blood yearly.
That is why we would like to challenge the Dallas and Fort Worth Tiffany Circle in raising blood donations now. We encourage those who are healthy to pledge to donate now between August 17 through September 18. Just one pint of blood can save up to three lives. The Red Cross has to collect 15,000 blood donations every day to have enough blood to help patients in 2,700 hospitals and transfusion centers across the country. That’s a lot of patients in need and all of us, coming together, can help ensure patients receive lifesaving blood.
Please make and keep an appointment to give blood to the American Red Cross between August 17 through September 18 and join us in saving lives one pint at a time!
