Give 1, Save 3 — Every one blood donation can save up to three lives.
In March, more than 5,000 American Red Cross blood drives were canceled across the United States when shelter in place orders went into effect. Since in-person blood drives at schools, workplaces, and places of worship account for 50-80% of all blood donations, this resulted in a shortage. Donating blood is always a lifesaving act — even more so now with the decrease in donations and overburdening of healthcare systems. Participating in the Give 1, Save 3 Blood Drive is one way to help ensure there is a stable supply throughout the pandemic. At a time when it is easy to feel powerless or at a loss for how to help your community, one concrete action many of us can take is donating blood.
To participate in the Give 1, Save 3 Blood Drive:
1. Take the pledge
2. Schedule an appointment at your local blood donation center
3. Spread the word about the Give 1, Save 3 Blood Drive
4. Respond to the follow-up survey
