Giving back to our communities is in Dot’s blood. Health and wellness is one of the pillars of our charitable efforts, and few organizations contribute to health and wellness more than the American Red Cross.
Each day, 36,000 units of red blood cells are needed in the U.S. The Red Cross makes up nearly 40 percent of our nation’s blood supply, helping people across all walks of life beat cancer, survive accidents, and recover from surgeries.
Unfortunately, COVID-19 has spurred the cancelation of thousands of blood drives. The Red Cross reported that they received 450,000 fewer blood donations as a result. But the coronavirus shouldn’t be halting blood donations. Everyone from the U.S. Surgeon General to the CDC encourages blood donations from those who feel well. With an American in need of a blood donation every two seconds, this is an essential service.
It’s up to us to help the Red Cross continue to save lives. A long-time supporter of the Red Cross, Dot encourages everyone—employee or not—to contribute to this organization. Whether you roll up your sleeve to donate blood, pull out your wallet to donate money, or get out your phone to spread the word on social media, any effort makes a difference.
We hope you join us in teaming up with the Red Cross and #CaringForOurCommunities.
