Sickled red blood cells are fragile and rigid and can break down prematurely compared to healthy red blood cells. This shorter lifespan can create a shortage of red blood cells throughout the body, leading to complications such as anemia and fatigue. While the Sickle cell disease impacts people all over the world, it is particularly common among those with ancestors of sub-Saharan Africa, and Latino regions. That’s where you come in! There isn’t a universal cure for the disease, but blood transfusions are proven to effectively treat the disease. Let’s roll up our sleeves and donate blood!
