In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day (MLK Day), US Foods is supporting the American Red Cross Sleeves Up campaign with a “virtual” blood drive focused on aiding the approximately 100,000 Americans battling sickle cell disease (SCD). SCD, which causes damage to red blood cells, is the most common genetic disease in the U.S. and predominantly impacts the Black and African American community. Frequent blood transfusions help prevent or reduce symptoms, so the Red Cross is counting on individuals and organizations across the country to help combat frequent blood shortages and close the gap for those in need.
You may make a pledge to give blood at any point during our campaign, which will run from January 17 through February 28–beginning with MLK Day and coming to a close as we wrap up Black History Month. Thank you for your support and continued commitment to Helping Communities Make It.
