In Memory of Kimberly Blalock Buff

This is a letter Kim wrote 12 days ago: I am so grateful for the blood donor drive. It is truly one of the best ways to support me. Today I was given one bag of blood platelets and two bags of red blood. Each of these is identified by a number. However, I know that this represents three individuals that took some time to save strangers’ lives. I need this blood to battle my cancer. Others need it for car crashes and even childbirth. I have been in the hospital for 70 days today. I have used more than 200 blood donations. What a blessing! By giving blood, you will help me fight my cancer, or you may help a friend, family, or neighbor. I promise you will never regret it, because all blood donors are heroes. With much love and gratitude, Kimberly Dawn Buff

One blood donation can help save up to three lives. That means a lot to patients in need.

A few weeks ago, Kim received many units of blood and asked that we give blood to help others.  I asked at every visit what we could do to help – and this is what she asked us to do.  We tried to set up a blood drive at Mt. Sylvan United Methodist Church, but were unable to get a date to host a drive at our church.

I want to personally encourage members of Mt. Sylvan UMC and other friends of Kim to make an appointment at a Red Cross branch near you and give blood through this campaign in memory of Kim to benefit the many who are fighting their own medical battles.  While we were discouraged at not being able to bring this event to Mt. Sylvan, we still want to extend this opportunity to honor the memory of Kim by doing something that will make a difference in many other lives.

Giving blood through this campaign will ensure that patients receive the life saving blood they need. Make and keep an appointment to give blood to the American Red Cross.
