Medical conditions and emergencies that require blood don’t stop for the holidays. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, more than 1 million units of blood and platelets will be transfused to patients in the United States. Donations of all blood types are urgently needed to ensure lifesaving treatments remain available for patients this holiday season. Blood and platelets are needed for accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease.
