U.N. Humanitarians give blood

Azrael, my grandson, on March 7th 2017, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Azrael has received blood products many times, each transfusion took an average of 3 people's donations. Without these donations, he would have not survived cancer. Blood donors can only give 6 donations per year and sometimes Azrael received back to back transfusions. We were so grateful to receive these blood donations. His mom estimates that Azrael received between 7 and 10 years of donations for "critical transfusions" which does not include what was needed for surgeries.

We work together every day to do important work. But today, especially in the lean summer months, we want to accomplish something even more meaningful. The Red Cross has to collect 15,000 blood donations every day to have enough blood to help patients in 2,700 hospitals and transfusion centers across the country. That’s a lot of patients like Azrael in need and all of us, coming together, can help ensure patients receive life saving blood.
